GP internship

Evaluating an AI-supported counselling training

Organisation: Department of Psychology, Health & Technology, University of Twente in collaboration with teachers from other faculties

Location: UT

Period: November 2026 – February 2027

Brief description of the assignment

Within the Health Psychology master, students learn how to design and evaluate interventions using a systematic and user-centred approach. In this internship, these principles will be applied to the evaluation and further development of an AI-supported counselling training for psychology students.

The aim of the internship is to evaluate the current prototype of the training based on relevant scientific literature and to identify evidence-based recommendations for its further development. Using the CeHRes Roadmap and principles described in eHealth Research, Theory and Development, the student will review literature on AI-supported counselling, digital counselling training, and relevant educational approaches. The student will assess how the current prototype aligns with existing evidence and identify opportunities for improvement.

The internship may also include gathering feedback from relevant stakeholders, such as students or teachers, to complement the literature review and provide a user-centred perspective on the prototype.

The final outcome will be a set of theoretically and empirically grounded recommendations for improving the AI-supported counselling training. These recommendations will be used to further develop and evaluate the training within the Health Psychology master.

Depending on the outcomes and scope of the internship, the project could potentially be extended into a master’s thesis in which the improved prototype is evaluated through a usability study with psychology students.
