Title: Causal Inferences in Forensic Medicine

Abstract: One of the main tasks of experts in forensic medicine is determining the cause of death in cases where the death of an individual has happened under unclear circumstances. Forensic pathologists draw inferences from medical background knowledge, different types of pathological data, and other available evidence. However, there arises a scientific problem because there is no generally accepted methodology for formulating and evaluating causal claims in forensic medicine. In this talk we address this scientific problem by a case-study based analysis of causal concepts and causal reasoning in forensic medicine.
