'Eenvandaag' about the fireworks disaster

On March 28, 2024 there was a broadcast of EenVandaag news on NPO1 following the report "Learning from two fireworks disasters" by the Department of Public Administration of the University of Twente, led by Professor of Public Management René Torenvlied. The broadcast dealt with the dangers of the storage of consumer fireworks in residential areas. In the report, researchers from the Department of Public Administration warn that consumer fireworks are a lot more dangerous than previously thought: there is a chance of mass explosion in case of fire. Research by EenVandaag shows that over 400 fireworks storage sites are located in residential areas in the Netherlands. The researchers from Public Administration Twente call for the Dutch cabinet and the Tweede Kamer (House of Representatives) to make a collective decision about fireworks storage in residential areas. This call is supported by the Fire Brigade and Safety Regions.
