developing a methodology for evaluating didactical skills of professional teachers

DEVELOPING A METHODOLOGY FOR EVALUATING DIDACTICAL SKILLS OF PROFESSIONAL TEACHERS

in cooperation with Siswa HEIKoop at CBR

Professional drivers play an important part in society. Truck drivers take care of stocking the stores and bus drivers help people get to work on a daily base. Without transportation there will be no movement.

Professional drivers are obliged to get a basic qualification to allow them to professionally drive a bus or truck. This qualification is called “code 95” and is to their driver license. Once professional drivers have their basic qualification, they have to take a refresher training every 5 years. In the Netherlands the CBR is responsible for the recognition of the teachers of the refresher training and of the certification of refresher training programs. The CBR also audits the quality of the refresher training programs.

ASSIGNMENT

The teacher of the refresher training program has a big impact on the quality of the training. It is often possible to specify content-related knowledge teachers must possess. However, evaluating their didactical skills is more challenging. Currently, didactical skills of the teachers are evaluated based on a set of criteria.

The CBR wants to qualify the teacher before (s)he teaches. The focus of this assignment is:

How can we effectively and efficiently evaluate didactical skills of professional teachers?

METHOD

The student who takes on this assignment will, among other things, develop a method to evaluate didactical skills of professional teachers. We are also very much interested in the first findings of the effectiveness of the developed method, by means of exploring field research.

Internship requirement

For this assignment the student must be fluent in Dutch.
