Master Thesis (May – December 2011)
“Modeling an Integrated Emergency Post. Designing a simulation model of the collaboration between the General Practitioners Post Almelo and the emergency department of ZGT Almelo”.
For my master thesis, I did an internship at the integrated emergency post in Almelo, which is a collaboration between the general practitioners post and the emergency department of the hospital. During this internship, I designed a simulation model of the processes at the integrated emergency post. This assignment was part of a ZonMW research project that started in April 2011 and will run for two years. In the remainder of the research project the simulation model I designed will be used to test organizational interventions in order to reach a more efficient process design with better use of resources.
PhD research (from January 2012)
Since January 2012 I work as a part-time PhD student at the Netherlands Cancer Institute – Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital (NKI-AVL). My research is mainly on the tactical level with respect to resource capacity planning. The focus of my research will be on processes that take place before surgery, such as consults at the outpatient clinics, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. I will analyze patient flows through these processes and design a model that helps predicting the effects of capacity planning decisions on other related departments.
Besides my PhD position. I have a part-time function as a staff member, in which I work on practical projects at the NKI-AVL with respect to patient logistics.
