Master graduation project vacancy @ Simacan: Integration of real-time traffic information in the planning of planning of logistic processes
Simacan, which is a company in the OVSoftware Group (www.ovsoftware.nl), is focusing on the processing and visualisation of large amounts of spatial data using its own solutions; Simacan Insight and Simacan Connect.
Simacan Insight offers fast and easy-to-use smart online viewers in which user data and the map take centre stage. Through Simacan insight is possible to customise analyses and visualisations and combine multiple different data sources seamlessly with the user data.
The Simacan Connect™ platform and the OpenLR™ technology allow users to combine own data with all other data sources. This gives a better overview of the operating processes and the infrastructure under management.
In collaboration with one of the Simacan customers, (a large retail organisation heavily dependent on logistic processes), we are aiming at conducting research concerning the effectivenes of integrating real-time traffic information in the planning of these logistic processes. Logistic movements are in the current situation only based on map information while traffic information is not taken into account.
We are also interested to find out how early in the planning process the real arrival time can be estimated with precision. This would lead to a more accurate planning of the following steps in the process. A second research question could concern the use of traffic information for the efficient re-planning of planned transports or even of transports in progress under certain constraints imposed by the transportation company or by the retail organisation (such as: fixed routes, alternative routes which are not suitable for the transport of cargo, etc.
The analysis technique which will be developed during the internship, must be eventually integrated in and made available via the products Simacan Insight and Simacan Connect.

Vacature master afstudeeropdracht @ Simacan: Integratie van actuele verkeersinformatie in de planning van logistieke processen
Simacan, onderdeel van de OVSoftware Groep (www.ovsoftware.nl), richt zich op het verwerken, beschikbaar maken en inzichtelijk maken van grote hoeveelheden ruimtelijke data middels haar oplossingen Simacan Insight en Simacan Connect.
Simacan Insight biedt u snel en eenvoudig bruikbare, slimme online viewers waarin uw data en de kaart centraal staan. Maak op maat gesneden analyses en visualisaties, en combineer verschillende databronnen naadloos met uw eigen data. Krachtige routering en triggers helpen u operationeel het overzicht te behouden.
Simacan Connect verwerkt en harmoniseert verschillende databronnen, zodat deze te gebruiken zijn met eigen databronnen.
In samenwerking met een van de klanten van Simacan, een grote retailorganisatie die een zware afhankelijkheid kent van logistieke processen, hebben we behoefte aan een onderzoek naar het nut van het integreren van actuele verkeersinformatie in de planning van deze logistieke processen. Logistieke bewegingen worden in de huidige situatie alleen gebaseerd op actuele kaartinformatie, actuele verkeersinformatie wordt hierin buiten beschouwing gehouden.
Onderzocht kan worden hoeveel eerder in het planningsproces de reële aankomsttijd bekend is, waardoor in het proces vastliggende vervolgstappen accurater gepland kunnen worden. Een tweede onderzoeksvraag kan zijn: hoe kan verkeersinformatie gebruikt worden om geplande of rijdende ritten te herrouteren binnen de randvoorwaarden van de vervoerder en de retailorganisatie (bijvoorbeeld: vaste aanrijroutes, alternatieve routes die ongeschikt zijn voor vrachtverkeer, etc.).
De door de afstudeerder te ontwikkelen analyse functie dient beschikbaar en inzichtelijk te worden gemaakt middels de producten Simacan Insight en Simacan Connect.
