RESEARCH ON ONLINE AND TRADITIONAL FRAUD

Why are people easy to phish and why is it easy to influence them? How can we protect users and can fraud be detected in more effective ways?

The UT is studying fraud. Sometimes that is psychological research, sometimes it is related to mathematical and statistical problems and to computer science. We invite students to collaborate with us, if possible in a multidisciplinary context. Questions that can studied include:

1. How does phishing work? What is ‘social engineering’ and how does it work?

2. Are fraudsters involved in all type of fraud and crime?

3. What about the victims of fraud? What are the financial, material and mental effects of victimization?

4. What is the role of ICT in fraud?

5. What are the methods used by fraudsters, and how can people avoid being defrauded?

6. How can fraud be detected cleverly, using big data?

Of course you can also carry out a research on related topics.

Collaboration

We work together with companies like Deloitte, PWC and also with the FraudHelpdesk.
