Did you know that a bit over 1% of Twente alumni work at ASML? On September 19th over 60 UT'ers from the 700+ alumni employed by this Dutch tech giant gathered for a memorable event on ASML’s Veldhoven campus, highlighting how our graduates play a substantial role in driving the vitality of the Dutch tech sector.
Hosted by UT alumnus and ASML Executive VP Technology, Jos Benschop, the event celebrated the lasting impact of University of Twente on the world of innovation. Jos proudly shared: "ASML people here today all have something in common – they've been educated at the University of Twente. It’s incredible to see both familiar faces and those I didn’t even know were UT alumni!"
UT President Vinod Subramaniam was also present and in a welcome message mentioned that half a dozen of his PhD students have ended up at ASML and concluded by saying that, “We have a good number of students and interns coming through this organization and I hope you are inspired to give some of the young people more chances to come and do cool things at ASML.”
The programme included updates from UT researchers Marcelo Ackerman ,Maarten Bonnema and Detlof Lohse about collaboration projects linked to ASML, followed by a lively panel discussion where seasoned UT alumni—Jos Benschop, Richard Droste, Jan Van Schoot, and Els Knoef-Vollenbroek—reflected on their time at Twente and career highlights at ASML.
What is the best part of their jobs now? The consensus seemed to be the people, collaboration, and new challenges. As Jos Benschop summarized, “Love to see the technical challenge. Every time we succeed the bar goes up … the best ones are the ones that are said to be impossible. We always continue to have new challenges. Never a dull moment”.
