Did you know that nearly a tenth of our 3500+ alumni based in Switzerland are affiliated with top research organizations like Agroscope, CERN, ETH, EPFL & UZH? What scientific work are the current PhD-candidates and early stage postdocs among them involved with and excited about?
Meet the next generation of potential global changemakers on Tuesday February 11th during a special 4TU.Alumni lunch gathering in Lausanne on the EPFL campus.
This will be a great opportunity to network with fellow 4TU alumni over lunch while also hearing short pitches from a lineup of inspiring young alumni researchers in the early stages of their careers who will be rotating between the tables. See further below for brief profiles!
This event is free for alumni from the Dutch Technical Universities but for logistical reasons, prior registration is required via this online form.

Participating alumni researchers:
Jamie Duburg, Postdoc researcher - Inorganic Synthesis and Catalysis, EPFL (Alumnus UT) | Jamie Duburg obtained his BSc and MSc in Chemical Engineering from the University of Twente before starting his PhD at the Paul Scherrer Institute and ETH Zürich in the field of polymeric membranes for vanadium redox flow batteries working alongside Dr. Lorenz Gubler and Prof. Thomas J. Schmidt. Upon completing his PhD in 2024, he started as a postdoctoral researcher in the group of Prof. Xile Hu at EPFL where he explores the development of polymeric membranes for various electrochemical applications |
Guo-Shiuan Lin, PhD student - Urban and Environmental Systems, EPFL (Alumnus TU Delft) | Guo-Shiuan is a doctoral student at the Laboratory of Urban and Environmental Systems at EPFL in Switzerland. He holds an MSc in Applied Earth Sciences from TU Delft, which he completed in 2022, and a BSc in Chemical Engineering from NTHU, Taiwan, obtained in 2019. His research passion is on designing sustainable and climate-resilient cities, using modeling and big data to address urban and environmental challenges. Outside of his academic pursuits, he enjoys traveling and hiking in different countries. |
Maria Marcinek, PhD student - Polymers Laboratory, EPFL (Alumna UT) | Maria Marcinek obtained her double MSc degree in Nanotechnology from Lodz University of Technology (Poland) and the University of Twente (Netherlands). Her research interests center around sustainability, bio-based polymer conjugates and polymer nanoparticles for delivery purposes. Currently, Maria is a doctoral student in Polymers Laboratory at EPFL working towards developing a new bacteria-based polymer nanotechnology to address agricultural challenges, under the supervision of Prof. Harm-Anton Klok. Outside the lab, she enjoys traveling and exploring the great outdoors. |
Pau Wiersma, PhD student - mountain hydrology, University of Lausanne (Alumnus TU Delft) | During Pau Wiersma's BSc in Civil Engineering at the TU Delft, he quickly developed an interest in environmental science, and hydrology in particular. This led Pau to also pursue an MSc in Environmental Engineering and, eventually, his current PhD position at the University of Lausanne, where he works on reconstructing historical snow amounts in mountainous regions using river discharge data. Along the way, Pau spent a semester on exchange in Beijing, another semester studying Chinese in Hangzhou, and 4 months on internship in Hanoi. After his PhD, Pau hopes to further apply his expertise for the benefit of the environment in any water-related field, ideally in Switzerland. He enjoys learning languages and to improve chances of staying in Switzerland is currently working hard to make German his 8th language. |
