Lunch lecture Fons Driessen (CHE'68)

ON APRIL 26, CHEMICAL TECHNOLOGY ALUMNUS FONS DRIESSEN WILL GIVE A LUNCH LECTURE ON THE UT CAMPUS. THIS LUNCH LECTURE IS ORGANIZED IN COLLABORATION WITH C.T.S.G. ALEMBIC. STUDENTS, EMPLOYEES AND ALUMNI ARE VERY WELCOME TO JOIN.

Fons Driessen studied Chemical Technology in Delft, Rotterdam and, from 1966 to 1968, in Twente. He worked successively as a project manager at Shell, as a senior consultant at McKinsey, as a divisional director at Pakhoed and as CEO in 1988 – 2000 of the Wavin Group.

After having been active in international business for over 30 years, Fons started working in 2000 as an executive coach for many CEOs, senior managers and professionals in the Netherlands. In the period 2002-2010 he did this from Boer & Croon in Amsterdam, after which he continued his coaching activities in his home in Baarn. As an executive coach, he uses a non-directive coaching style that is based more on listening, empathizing and asking the right questions than on giving advice. Each of his coaching processes leads to a concrete action plan drawn up by the client and to actual change in behavior and effectiveness. His most important learning experiences for his role as an executive coach came from his training as a co-trainer in Shell's Organization Development activities, during his time as a visiting scholar at the Organizational Behavior faculty of Stanford Business School in California and during his intensive “Coach Training at the MMS Worldwide Institute, Inc. In his spare time, Fons climbs (to a lesser extent) high mountains around the world and leads Leadership Wilderness Trails for executives and professionals in the bush and mountains of South Africa. Fons is married and has children and grandchildren in North and South America.

During the lecture, Fons will talk about the leadership that this and the near future requires of us, based on his experiences.
