A new PhD project in the field of nanofluidics will begin soon. The goal of the project is to analyze the dynamics of liquid films with a thickness of a few molecular layers confined between smooth surfaces and the tip of an atomic force microscope. To characterize the liquid properties, we plan to analyze statistically the noise of the AFM cantilever oscillation. The grant includes a new AFM instrument that is scheduled to arrive in February 2007. A more detailed description of the PhD position can be found in the section vacancies.
