Facilities Neuro Imaging Group (NIM)
PPMS Measurement Laboratory
The NIM group has a shared ownership in a Quantum Design Physical Properties Measurement System with a 9T magnet and a variety of inserts, ranging from AC transport to VSM analysis. For VSM analysis of large (tissue) samples (upto a few cc), a home-built wide-bore detection coil (inner diameter 10.6 mm) is developed in the NIM group. Complementary facilities for sample preparation and storage are available on-site. The PPMS is situated in the labs of the Inorganic Materials Science Group in the Carré building.
Magnetically Shielded Room (MSR)
Our laboratory contains a magnetically shielded room (VacuumSchmelze GmbH, Hanau, Germany) for accurate noise characterization and EMC testing. Because of its relatively large size of 3.5x4m, the room is suitable for relatively large setups. The lab room is equipped with helium recovery connections to facilitate the use of helium cooled setups in or outside the MSR. In addition, liquid nitrogen vessels as well as vacuum pumps are available for setups to be cooled with liquid nitrogen or using high vacuum insulation. Clinical handheld magnetometer – SentiMag
The NIM group owns a commercially available clinical handheld magnetometer (SentiMag, Endomag Ltd.), designed for localization of a tracer with magnetic nanoparticles in the sentinel lymph node. This probe can either be used for experimental procedures or education in collaboration with the ECTM. For more information, please contact Bennie ten Haken.
Time Domain Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (TD-NMR) – Bruker minispec mq20
The Bruker minispec mq20 is a time domain NMR analyzer working at 20 MHz (0.5 T ). The system is designed to perform T1 and T2 relaxation measurements on samples in a 10 mm NMR tube (T = 40 °C). For more information and applications visit the Bruker website or contact Martijn Visscher.

Differential Magnetometry Laboratory
A well-equipped workshop and lab are available for in house production of custom coil sets, cryostat inserts, magnetometers and other experimental setups. Several (experimental) magnetometers are in use for (handheld) magnetic detection and characterization of materials. For more information, please contact Erik Krooshoop.
