Managing supportability data for the V250

Project type: Master assignment (modeling and case study).
Mentors: J.E. Parada Puig, Msc, Dr. Jan Braaksma.
Student: Joost Ziggers
Background: mechanical engineering, supportability engineering, maintainability engineering.

Company: NedTrain

Description

Prior to the fielding of capital assets, the documentation available for support must be managed. For large and complex systems, a very large body of data is available once designers are finished with the whole scope of the supportability agenda. Such data originates from Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Level of Repair Analysis (LORA), Maintenance Task Analysis (MTA) and initial sparing. To manage such information, the Logistic Support Analysis Record (LSAR) is implemented in the defense industry. For commercial industry, and in the case of the railways, some companies have taken a similar approach. Organizations must develop (i) management procedures to integrate the whole extent of data made available to the support organization after acquisition, (ii) identify information islands within supplier data, and (iii) control, update and maintain data when new operational data becomes available.

Questions

What information islands exist in the maintenance data when the equipment manufacturer delivers the system? How do organizations manage their maintenance documentation after acquisition?

Aim

The research involves identifying information islands in support documentation, and proposing a method to manage and control maintenance documentation.

Tasks

Research on the Logistic Support Analysis (LSA) process and the Logistic Support Analysis Record (LSAR). Understand how capital equipment suppliers deliver support data. Identify key information islands in supplier data. Make a case study for a company project.
