Smart Radio: Improving performance of mobile radio access

The scope of the Smart Radio project is the development of mobile radio access standards that offer improved capacity, data rates and reliability. Particularly, the project investigates the application of network coding concepts to the evolution of the LTE standard. Network coding is a family of coding technologies that promise more effective use of network resources. The aim of the project is to bring network coding theory into practice. The project is funded by KPN, a Dutch telecommunications and IT service provider, and is executed by The Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research – TNO and the Stochastic Operations Research Group at the University of Twente.
