Modeling piggybacking on beacons in VANETs

In the context of vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs) beaconing is the regular broadcasting of short status-messages by each node, usually with semi-fixed inter-beacon periods. Piggybacking on beacons is a forwarding method whereby nodes who want to forward data attach this data to a beacon. The next time the node beacons both the status information and the additional data are broadcasted. Using multi-hop piggybacking, the time it takes to disseminate information a certain distance (from source to sink) is determined by network parameters such as the beacon frequency, the number of nodes in the network, the transmission range of a node, etc. It is our goal to model the probability that the sink will have received the piggybacked data within a certain period. In my talk I will show you how we intend to reach this goal.
