Abstract:

Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) are envisioned to alleviate problems such as pollution, accidents and congestion in our future (road) transportation systems. This is often achieved by orchestrating a more fluent cooperation between vehicles by means of Vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication. Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs) are created when vehicles meet by chance. Using a smart flooding strategy and a data compression method it is possible to give vehicles a virtual horizon of tens of kilometers without imposing too great a burden on the medium.
