Performance comparison of EUL scheduling schemes with interference factors

Enhanced Uplink is expected to provide increased data rates and smaller latency on the communication link from users towards the network. This should improve the quality of services such as file transfer and interactive mobile gaming. In this presentation we focus on the performance of three packet scheduling schemes for sharing the EUL shared channel (EDCH). In particular, we conducted a comparison taking into account both the packet level characteristics and the flow level dynamics due to the (random) user behavior. We have modeled the interference from UMTS R’99 users (intra-cell interference) and we will present an initial methodology to model interference from other cells (inter-cell interference) as well. Using a hybrid analytical and simulation approach we analyzed the three schemes with respect to performance parameters such as mean file transfer time.
