We are a group of about 20 players and play a friendly match every Monday after work. Which team you're in depends on the colour of your shirt.
How to join
- Since we are part of the staff association of UT, we can only accept UT employees:
- Regular employees
- Guest staff with m-number & employee card. The employee card is necessary for the sports centre access.
- If you are interested in joining us, please contact one of the board members (see below). Sometimes, there is a waiting list for new members. If there is space for new players, they will invite you to join a few times before you make the decision to become a member.
- To access the sports centre, you need to have an active sports centre subscription for employees. This is free of charge but needs to be activated every academic year again on your employee card. See utwente.nl/campuscard. They also have an app for accessing the accommodation once your campus card has been activated.
- Did you enjoy playing with us? Great! After that, you can become a member by telling one of the board members. You will be added to the mailing list and you can join the Teamy app (see below).
- UT Kring: Join the UT Kring staff association by registering using the UT Kring membership form (English). UT Kring also organizes many events for UT employees (PhD/EngD included) and offers other discounts like cheap cinema tickets. The fees are 0.045% of your monthly salary bill and will be deducted automatically from your UT payslip.
- Once you are a member of UT Kring, you can join the Futsal group, which is part of UT Kring. We have a separate annual fee of 60-90 euros, depending on your salary scale. PhD students pay the lowest fee. Our treasurer will email you when the annual fee is due.
Communication week planning
- We use the mailing list utk-voetbal@lists.utwente.nl for internal mail. You will be added, and sending emails is only available for members of that list.
- We use the Teamy app (Android/iOS) to sign up for Monday's games. Here is the invite link to join our team on Teamy.
Practical matters for the games
- Don't forget your employee card (with an active campus card subscription for this academic year, free for employees) or the Sports & Culture app on your phone for Sports Centre access
- We rent the accommodation from 17.00 - 18.30 on Mondays. The first 15 minutes are used for individual warming up, then we start playing at 17.15.
- You can use one of the group or individual dressing rooms in the Sports Centre downstairs.
- We play when we have at least 8 players (by noon on Monday). Otherwise, we cancel.
- Up to 15 spots are available. Usually, we divide the group into two teams. With 15 players, we create three teams and play 10-minute games, with one team waiting.
Futsal rules
We play according to the rules of the Dutch soccer association KNVB, using some exceptions. Here is a summary of the rules. Rules 5 to 10 below are exceptions to the KNVB rules:
- Each team has 4 players and a keeper. Substitutes may change continuously.
- If the ball passes the side line, we continue with a kick-in. The player involved stands outside the field.
- If the ball passes the goal line, the keepers throws the ball back into the game or we take a corner, depending on which team touched the ball before it passed the line.
- You can't score directly if you bring the ball back into the filed (kick-in or thrown in by the keeper).
- A free kick is always an indirect free kick.
- The foul location is the location to take the free kick, unless the foul has been conducted in the goal area. In that case the free kick for the defending team is replaced by a penalty. If the forwarding team makes a foul in the penalty area, the fee kick is taken from the 6-meter-line.
- You may take not more than 4 seconds to bring the ball back into the game or take a free kick.
- For each corner, kick-in or free kick, the opponent keeps a distance of at least 5 meters.
- If the ball is knowingly played back to the keeper, no matter which part of the body, the keeper may not touch the ball with his hands. Consequence: a free kick from the 6-meter line.
- Participating and having fun is more important than winning. There is no referee.
Famous past
Our futsal group is as old the UT Kring itself. In the seventies, the famous Abe Lenstra was our coach. Abe was able to get many old internationals to the Christmas tournament and is our most famous honorary member. Members from the seventies claim that everything was better in the good old times. Well, we will never know but probably believe them. Even the partners of the members knew each other very well, people used to go on vacation with each other, built pyramids made of beer bottles until late at night on Mondays... A lot has changed but we still play futsal. And the oldest members still have cool stories from the past to tell!
UT Kring Christmas tournament
Starting 1969, the UT Kring staff association organized a Christmas tournament. Participants usually are: current team members, former team members and external teams like Polaroid, Zuidvogels, TVO de Noabranders of the Twente Flight Base, het Roessingh, Stork, de Bastille, TVTA, het Vlughtelab and more. The past years there was no Christmas tournament, but maybe we can bring back this tradition in the future.
