To improve the quality of our compost, we apply waste separation, since 2004. At the green waste heaps, we classify between good, compostable waste to the left, and bad, non-compostable waste to the right. This waste separation only works well if everyone sticks to the rules, so please mind the signs next to the heaps.
Compostable waste
- Leaves of Vegetable such as lettuce, endive and chicory
- Leeks, onions, carrots and beet leaves
- Rhubarb Leaves
- Leaves of pumpkin, zucchini or cucumbers
- Foliage of maize
- Foliage of beans
- Stems from flowers and herbs
The green wastes for compost should be mold or mildew free.
Uncompostable wastel
- Potato foliage
- All kinds of cabbage stumps
- Weeds with seed
- Elytrigia repens, ground-elder, galium aparine, calystegia sepium, Jerusalem artichoke
- Sunflower stems
- Nettle foliage
These wastes need to be treated carefully, since they may spread weeds or plant disease.
Last but not least, for all the other kinds of waste (such as paper, plastic bags) you bring with you to the garden, please take it also back with you.
