Elastomers

Elastomers

Dr. Fabian Gurnert

Elastomers play an essential role in modern society, from industrial applications to consumer products. However, the elastomer world faces a series of important challenges for the future. Among the most pressing are the global need for energy savings, particularly related to the energy consumption of tires due to their rolling resistance, which accounts for about half of the net energy from automotive fuel consumption. Additionally, there is a need to find feasible recycling routes for elastomer articles, and tires in particular. Furthermore, environmental and safety issues related to the use of various rubber ingredients in production, as well as in use, are of growing concern. At the Polymer Center Twente, we are working to address these challenges and develop sustainable solutions. Our research and collaborations across faculties and with industry partners are focused on finding innovative ways to reduce the rolling resistance of tires, improve recycling processes, and reduce the environmental and safety impacts of elastomer production and use. With our cutting-edge research and expertise in elastomers, we aim to lead the way in creating a sustainable future for this versatile material.Image / video with text
