Intermittent renewable energy sources are penetrating the world electricity supply mix increasingly. This results in a rising electricity supply, which negatively affects the stability of the electricity grid.
For this reason, we explore all kinds of energy storage technologies to store energy and use it when necessary.
In my master assignment I will work on an electrochemical energy storage system, which is based on the bicarbonate/formate redox couple. I will compare several bipolar membranes, at various operating conditions, to reduce the formate slip and energy consumption.
