Nanofluidics

Friction and wear are frequently determined by the properties of extremely thin liquid films with a thickness of just a few molecular diameters. In our nanofluidics activities we study how the properties of confined liquid films change with the degree of confinement, the solid-liquid interaction, and the chemical and topographical properties of the surfaces. The ultimate goal in these experiments is to gain fundamental insights into both equilibrium and transport properties at the boundary between molecular motion and continuum flow.
