Selected TOPpaper 2005 in Journal of Physics Condensed Matter

The “Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter” (http://www.iop.org/EJ/journal/JPhysCM) has chosen the article “Electrowetting: from basics to applications” as one of the top papers in 2005. In this article they describe both fundamental and applied aspects of electrowetting. In the article various approaches to derive the basic electrowetting equation and discuss the origin of the electrostatic forces that can affect both the contact angle as well as the position of the droplet.

Also the failure of the electrowetting equation under high voltage is discussed. Finally an overview recent work aimed at commercial applications is given.
