Introduction to the Essentials of Membrane Technology
Join our comprehensive introductory course on Membrane Technology, where you will be introduced to the essentials of membranes and their wide range of applications!
Who Should Attend?
This course is suitable for anyone interested in separation technology, in particular (but not limited to!) industrial professionals (researchers, engineers, laboratory staff, operators, etc.), PhD students involved in molecular separations. Additionally, educators and professionals from both the private and public sectors dealing with novel sustainability technologies will find this course beneficial. No prior knowledge or experience with membranes is required. The advised level of education is (Applied) University, and the course will be taught in English.

Course Overview
Day 1: (Wednesday, November 13)
- Course overview and intended learning outcomes
- Historical perspective
- Introduction to different types of membranes and modules
- Fabrication methods
- Molecular separation mechanisms
Day 2: (Thursday, November 14)
- Major pressure-driven membrane processes: microfiltration, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration, and reverse osmosis
- Extensive tour of the Twente Membrane facilities (our researchers will explain/discuss their work)
- An overview of current membrane research @UTwente
- Additional membrane processes, including gas separation and (electro)dialysis
Day 3: (Friday, November 15)
- Membrane process design
- Examples of food applications
- Examples of Industrial applications
- Membranes in water treatment

The course fee includes lunch on all three days and dinner on Wednesday and Thursday. All course materials will be provided in advance.
