Placebo-effect: Onderzoekers behandelen darmklachten met nepoperatie

A unique project is being conducted by PhD candidate Floor Metz (M3I-UT and MST) and several colleagues in MST and HTI-UT under the guidance of Prof. Bob Geelkerken (M3I-UT and MST). This is the first nationwide randomized clinical trial which has placebo-controlled patient and blinded-observer to study the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of endoscopic coeliac artery release. This procedure is conducted in patients suspected of the Median Arcuate Ligament syndrome. While endoscopic coeliac artery release is performed as standard of care, it is unknown whether the positive effects are actually due to the surgery or whether placebo effects are at play. This study funded by ZonMW will address these questions. (Article further in Dutch).
