On Tuesday 26 January 2021, the Medisch Spectrum Twente hosted the online PIHC (Pioneers in Healthcare) Award Ceremony. During this event, 11 "Technological pioneering in healthcare" and "Applying technology in healthcare" vouchers were awarded.
M3I is associated with two of the granted vouchers:
1) One project led by Srirang Manohar and Jeroen Veltman: "Photoacoustic breast tomography: Towards monitoring of neoadjuvant chemotherapy response." In this project the researchers (Rianne Bulthuis and Maura Dantuma) and clinicians in MST and ZGT will work with a state-of-the-art photoacoustic breast imager to time lay the foundation for a clinical study on the use of photoacoustics for the evaluation of Neoadjuvant chemotherapy in breast cancer.
2) In a second project called "Risk assessment in ischemic stroke by photoacoustic quantification of carotid plaque (in)stability" Bob Geelkerken and Michel Reijnen are involved on the clinical side of a new technology being developed at the group BMPI to investigate the degree of carotid plaque instability measured using photoacoustic/ultrasound imaging.
