Quantum didactics

We investigate the didactics of teaching quantum mechanics to secondary as well as academic education. The didactics research is embedded into our Qlab, hosting:

  • Quantum Physics Education Development and Research

In addition to our experimental research on quantum materials and devices, our group strongly focuses on quantum physics education research and development. In our group, we study quantum physics education across multiple educational levels, from secondary schools to university programs.

Our research activities focus on the following main directions:

    • We have developed a university minor programme for non-physicists called the “Quantum for the Curious" minor. The goal of the minor is to introduce non-physics students to quantum physics phenomena that are needed for new technology. More information can be found on the minor programme website. We use the minor to study the impact of different teaching activities.
    • We have also contributed to developing a specialisation in quantum physics for the master's program in Applied Physics. Visit the quantum specialisation website for more information.
    • For high-school students, we host a Quantum Outreach lab (Qlab). The Qlab allows high school students to observe the effects of quantum physics. Through our activities in the Qlab, we study the development and evaluation of hands-on quantum experiments in physics education. Visit the Qlab website for more information.
    • We study students’ understanding and perception of quantum mechanical concepts through the development of demonstration materials.
