This month marks a significant milestone for the Cryogenics Society of Europe (CSE) as it celebrates its 10th anniversary. What started as an initiative to unite the European cryogenics community has flourished into a dynamic and collaborative platform for researchers, engineers, and industry professionals across the continent.
A special tribute to UTwente’s own
We are proud to highlight that one of the key driving forces behind the founding of the Society was Prof. Marcel ter Brake, whose vision and efforts played a pivotal role in shaping CSE from its inception. Marcel was not only a founding member but also instrumental in establishing the society’s structure and network, laying a solid foundation for its success today. His continued involvement and leadership have been deeply valued within the community.
Celebrating a Decade of Cryogenics
To commemorate this 10-year journey, CSE published a special April 2025 Newsletter that reflects on its history and evolution:

The celebration will culminate in person at the upcoming
European Cryogenic Days & Cryogenic Heat and Mass Transfer Workshop (ECD-CHMT), taking place
from October 27–30, 2025, at the University of Twente.

As part of the celebration, a special cryogenic-themed crossword puzzle has also been published — a lighthearted nod to the creative minds in our field. You can download it directly from the newsletter.
