Recently, the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate has granted €34 million for the project "Modular Integrated Sustainable Datacenter project (MISD)” in which the University of Twente is leading the research efforts on decentralised computing and sustainable operation of data centres.
This is part of a 1.2 B€ initiative of the EU on Important Project of Common European Interest focussed on Cloud Infrastructure and Services (IPCEI-CIS). The University of Twente together with Asperitas, BetterBe, Deerns, Eurofiber, NBIP (National Internet Providers Management Organization), and TNO will develop innovative technologies for Modular Integrated Sustainable Datacenters (MISD). Here, the team is led by Jimmy Faria (CPM), Abhishek Singh (TE), and Davoud Jafari (AMSPES) will co-lead the development of new materials and reactor system for the valorisation of heat waste. In this project, a team of two PhDs and one PD will be conducting cutting-edge research on material science and reactor engineering to generate a thermo-chemical rectifier that converts low-temperature heat into power.
