Nuria García Moncada has also achieved the second second prize for the design and synthesis of a catalyst consisting of a proton zirconia conductor mixed with a typical catalyst for the reaction of Water Gas Shift (WGS, or displacement of water gas) has allowed greater activation of the water molecule at low temperatures (<300 °C) and thus double the activity of the conventional catalyst at a reaction rate five times higher than used industrially today. This allows reducing the reactor size up to five times, maintaining its activity and thus bringing the application of clean H2 technology closer to mobile devices such as the car.
