The bridge between science and society
The Koninklijke Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen, the oldest “Learned Society” in the Netherlands, was founded as Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen in 1752, with the aim of promoting science in the broadest sense. The KHMW aims to bridge the gap between science and society by organizing competitions, awarding scientific achievements and organizing lectures and conferences. The designation Royal was granted on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the Society in 2002.
