On the 6th of July 2021, members of the PERSIST group joined the EurOMA 2021 conference to present the Delphi study outcome of the third intellectual output (IO3). One part of IO3 addressed the skills and roles within purchasing and supply management within an Industry 4.0 scenario.

EurOMA is an international network of academics and practitioners worldwide who have a common interest in the continuing development of Operations Management. EurOMA is a European-based network with rapidly growing international links, whereby members can share their ideas, knowledge, and experience. It is a communication network that bridges the gap between research and practice. EurOMA is working towards extending the arena of OM throughout the world by bringing the professionals in the field closer together
During the EurOMA 2021 conference, the PERSIST members presented two academic papers addressing the needed skills in future purchasing and the roles that will emerge within purchasing due to the field development towards Industry 4.0. Here, the research builds on the results from the Delphi study conducted with 47 professionals in the field of purchasing and supply management. The Delphi study started in December 2021 and was concluded in January 2022 with a quantitative assessment of the Delphi projects.
In total, the Delphi study identified nine future skills in purchasing and six roles that will be needed to utilize technologies within the field. Details on the identified skills and roles can be found in the third white paper of the PERSIST project.
