DEAN alumni event: Copenhagen

Alumni are offered a unique opportunity to visit the UNICEF Supply Division warehouse* in Copenhagen which at over 20,000 square meters (the equivalent of three football pitches) is the largest humanitarian facility of its type in the world. Join local UT’er Pieter Verhoog (BIT’06) who as a Supply Chain Data Analyst at the warehouse will provide insight on both the latest technology installed as well as the life critical mission of this important IGO.

During this event you will also have a chance to hear updates from both Twente and the other Dutch technical universities, as well as enjoy a 'borrel' mixer with fellow alumni – a great way to start accessing our shared ‘DEAN**’ Nordic network of 4000+ local graduates including over 600 in Copenhagen!

An optional guided tour of the warehouse will take place from 14:00 till 15:30hr - only 25 spots are available so make sure to select this option on the registration form (view these videos for a preview of the facility from outside and inside)

*ABOUT UNICEF: UNICEF is the world’s leading agency in procuring essential supplies for children. From a logistics platform in Djibouti to children in a health facility in Yemen, from a nutrition manufacturing facility in Madagascar to health centres in Nigeria and from the world’s largest humanitarian warehouse in Denmark to a refugee camp in Bangladesh, UNICEF supplies made their way across the globe to reach children in need in 2017. In 2017, UNICEF procured a total of $3.46 billion in goods and services. Of these, $533.3 million went to emergencies – representing the largest year on record for humanitarian responses in terms of supply. Supplies included health and hygiene products, water pumps, nutrition products, toys, school equipment and more. Part of these supplies are stored in and sent out from the UNICEF Supply Division warehouse in Copenhagen. The high-bay storage area is fully automated, stands 8 stories tall and could contain 6,000 20 foot containers. It has a storage capacity of 36,000 pallets. In addition to housing over 850 different UNICEF supply items, space is loaned to the Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for stockpiling their emergency items. The warehouse has a 'Good Distribution Practice' license to store and distribute pharmaceutical products. During 2017, more than 400,000 kits including custom-made sets were packed by warehouse staff.
