Perspectives

As an academic community, one of our strengths is seeing things from different perspectives and, therefore, challenging the status quo. Perspectives is a new series of dialogues in which a current theme is discussed.

Various guests from within the UT are invited to discuss the theme from different perspectives. Members of the Executive Board also take turns in the discussion and invite you to think along: by visiting and joining the discussions or by claiming a seat at the table.

Let's talk about growth in student numbers

Since 2015, the number of students at UT has increased by more than 40 per cent. A substantial increase, not least due to an increase in the number of international students. UT's growth is not without reason: there is a great need for technically qualified personnel in the labour market. Technological solutions are an increasingly important part of addressing major societal issues. Think of healthcare, or energy transition.

In this new edition of Perspectives, we will dive into the theme of future growth. Together with our guests, at the table and the people in the audience, we will try to find out what growth is desirable, and what is needed to preserve what is good and strengthen what could be better.

Hosted by Pieter Boerman, Director of Pre-U and Akin Akinyoade, activity manager of student association AFRISA (African International Students Association) studying Chemical Engineering. University of Twente President Vinod Subramaniam and vice-president Machteld Roos will join the discussion about the growth in student numbers.

·  Victor-Jan Leurs, director Twente Board
