Enschede, 23 July 2024 – A distinguished delegation from the Kyushu Institute of Technology, Japan, visited the BRAINS Center for Brain-Inspired Nano Systems at MESA+, University of Twente, to explore cutting-edge brain-inspired computing activities. The delegation included Professor Hakaru Tamukoh, Associate Professor Yuichiro Tanaka, Mr. Akinobu Mizutani, Ms. Mizuho Shimoda, and Mr. Kouki Kimizuka.
The visit was part of a broader trip to the Netherlands, where the delegation triumphed by winning the first prize in the domestic robots category at the RoboCup in Eindhoven. Their innovative and skilled contributions to robotics were highly acclaimed, showcasing their expertise and leading-edge research.
At the BRAINS Center, the delegation was warmly welcomed by Professor Wilfred van der Wiel, the co-director of BRAINS. This visit signifies a strong collaborative effort within the International Core to Core program of the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), a partnership that includes the Kyushu Institute of Technology, the University of Osaka, and MESA+ at the University of Twente.
"We are thrilled to host such a talented and accomplished group from Kyutech," said Professor Van der Wiel. "Their success at the RoboCup and their interest in brain-inspired computing align perfectly with our mission at BRAINS to push the frontiers of nano and brain-inspired technology."
The delegation's visit underscored the mutual commitment to advancing the field of brain-inspired computing and fostering international collaboration. Both institutions look forward to future joint endeavors that promise to drive significant advancements in technology and research. In this light Mr Kimizuka will spend half a year at BRAINS from September this year.
