RESULT
Do you want to take your English-language academic writing to the next level by learning tips and tricks for editing the tone of your writing? After attending part one, where you learn about the principles of ediitng and practice manual editing, you can choose to attend this workshop, where we examine the extent to which Large Language Models (LLMs) can support you to become a better writer and editor.
You will leave this workshop with a clearer idea of your own position toward using LLMs for this type of task, as well as an understanding of how to use LLMs responsibly, to support your own writing.
Please note: In order to attend this session, you must first register for and attend part one. This is because successful editing using an LLM requires knowledge from the first workshop about priciples and practice of editing academic writing.
If you register for part one but do not attend, then you will not be able to attend part 2.
CONTENT
In this workshop, we use example texts taken from the British Academic Written English Corpus. This is both for (your) privacy, and to avoid countering any module policies that do not allow use of AI for writing. We will look at (among other things):
- Why would we or wouldn't we use LLMs for editing?
- How can we use LLMs responsibly?
- How do we ask the right questions?
- How do we check suggestions given?
- Practice and tips.
- Ethical factors and limitations to consider when using LLMs for editing.
- Reflection on both workshops, refining your position toward LLM use in writing.
DURATION AND TIME INVESTMENT
One workshop of two hours, with +/- 20 minutes preparation.
Language
The language of instruction is English, and the course content is suitable for editing English-language texts.
