FFNT lunch meeting with Tatiana Filatova February 14

For whom
FFNT members and any academic staff members interested in how successful work-life balance can be achieved at the University of Twente.

Tatiana Filatova is Adjunct Professor at the Department of Governance and Technology for Sustainable Development (CSTM). During her PhD (2009, Cum Laude) she spent 1.5 years at the Center for Social Complexity at George Mason University, USA. At the start of her academic career Tatiana had a shared position between UT and Deltares, returning full time to academia with the recipient of the NWO VENI grant. Since then Tatiana has led several projects funded by NWO, EU and international funding platforms such as Digging Into Data, and was a visitor at several universities in Australia and EU. From 2014 Tatiana is the member of the UT Young Academy (JA@UT) and since 2016 – the member of ‘De Jonge Akademie’ of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (DJA/KNAW). She was listed by the Dutch ‘New Scientist’ magazine among the top 25 young scholars of the Netherlands and Belgium in the nomination for the ‘Wetenschapstalent 2016’ award. Despite all the exciting and demanding pressure in her professional life, Tatiana most of all enjoys spending time with her husband and their two boys Michael (2010) and Timothy (2014). During this lunch discussion she would like to share some observations that helped her along the path, which all of course can – and should – be debatable!

Inspirational UT’er of the month lunch discussion series
“We have a dream: a workplace in which both men and women are given the flexibility to excel in all facets of their life, in which work and private life can coexist, in which employees are happy and motivated leading to an innovative and creative environment in which scientific breakthroughs flourish…. And this dream could be the University of Twente in 2020!”

It is possible! We have already in our organization plenty of inspirational examples of UT’ers that are combining very successful careers with fulfilling private/family life. We would like to learn from their experiences and find out our strong and weak points to succeed in creating the most inspiring and inclusive environment to achieve our dream. So join us at this inspirational UT’er of the month lunch discussion on the 13th of February and share your experiences with your colleagues!
