The Master's in Embedded Systems (EMSYS) is a two-year (120 EC) programme.
It is organized in semesters of 20 weeks, each divided into two quartiles.
- 1 EC (European Credit) equals 28 hours of study workload.
- 1 academic year equals 60 EC.
- The total study load for the EMSYS master’s is 120 EC.
Programme structure
Component | Description | EC |
|---|---|---|
Core courses | Compulsory foundational courses that cover key aspects of embedded systems such as architectures, modelling, real-time systems, dependability, and security. | 30 |
Elective courses (incl. homologation) | Specialization courses chosen to deepen knowledge in one or more thematic areas. These can be selected from the pre-approved EMSYS list, or (with mentor approval) from related UT programmes such as Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Robotics. | 30 |
Internship (optional) | A professional internship, typically completed at a company or research institute. Required for most students, except those who already completed at least 30 EC of internship in their Bachelor’s (e.g. HBO graduates). | 20 |
Final Master’s Project | Individual research or design project within one of the EMSYS chairs. Students can start once a maximum of 10 EC of coursework remains unfinished. | 40 |
Total | 120 EC |
Homologation (bridging) courses
Students entering from different bachelor backgrounds may need to complete homologation courses to balance their prior knowledge:
- CS background → additional Electrical Engineering-oriented courses
- EE background → additional Computer Science-oriented courses
- HBO (University of Applied Sciences) background
