Arise day 2022 Sensing and Data Science for biodiversity @ PS

On March 30 the first Arise day was organised (https://www.arise-biodiversity.nl/). The event was hosted by the Naturalis Biodiversity Centre, and was filled with some visionary speakers (like ‘our’ astronaut Andre Kuipers), an update on the ARISE activities and results, various breakout sessions, and a panel discussion.

Jacob Kamminga, as team lead of the Digital Species Identification (https://www.arise-biodiversity.nl/teamdigitalspeciesidentification), did present the results and plans related to building services that support the development and deployment of AI algorithms which detect and identify species from a wide variety of digital media such as sound, images and radar. Paul Havinga participated in the panel in which the use of ARISE, potential show-stoppers, and the potential impact on society were addressed.
