Smart Surroundings

The Smart Surroundings research program is investigating a new paradigm for bringing the flexibility of information technology to bear in every aspect of daily life. This involves the integration of several areas in Computer Sciences and Mathematics, ranging from wireless communication networks to scheduling in a netwoked in-home environment.

The PhD project 'Optimization Techniques' will focus on modeling and solving optimization problems occurring in the context of building up frameworks for future ambient systems. The provision of optimized seamless services asks e.g. for efficient resource allocation methods, scheduling techniques for resource management and allocation, clustering techniques and localization methods. All these problems have to be treated in a real time setting and a resource-poor ambient system.
