2021 - 2025 Re-Sample Project

REAL-TIME DATA MONITORING FOR SHARED, ADAPTIVE, MULTI-DOMAIN AND PERSONALISED PREDICTION AND DECISION MAKING FOR LONG-TERM PULMONARY CARE ECOSYSTEMS

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a common, progressive lung condition with a high impact on quality of life and life expectancy. Many patients with COPD have comorbidities, such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases or mental health issues. The care of patients with COPD and co-morbid chronic conditions is very complex, as there are overlapping risk factors and symptoms which can delay the selection of appropriate treatment.

RE-SAMPLE is a large-scale European project, coordinated by the Biomedical Signals and Systems (BSS) group from the University of Twente. RE-SAMPLE aims to prevent disease progression in patients with COPD and comorbidities, and aims to empower patients to manage their care. RE-SAMPLE will use Real World Data (RWD) to monitor symptoms beyond scheduled medical check-ups, give physicians, caregivers and patients a unique insight into common, daily triggers that can lead to health complications. Also RE-SAMPLE will support personalized treatment and self-management by personalized coaching and shared decision making, as part of a virtual companionship program.

Besides the coordination of the project, the BSS group is developing and researching communication strategies for user interaction and shared decision making, coaching actions and content for lifestyle coaching, and decision support for patients with COPD and comorbidities.

RE-SAMPLE has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement no. 965315
