PERSONALIZED CANCER TREATMENT AND CARE (PARTNR) PLATFORM
One in seven women in the Netherlands will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in her life. Up to 90% of the patients experience some form of cancer-related fatigue (CRF) after diagnosis and for 30%, this fatigue remains problematic up to 10 years after diagnosis. As fatigue is a multi-dimensional problem, the patient should be assessed holistically. Early treatment is important, to keep it from becoming chronic. Based on the holistic patient profile, a personalized advice for an intervention against CRF can be given. In the PARTNR project, an intelligent self-learning system for these patients is developed, combining medical data with data on daily-life functioning to provide a personalized recommendation for an intervention against CRF.
The Biomedical Signals and Systems group coordinates and leads the project, which is a collaboration between the University of Twente, ZiekenhuisGroep Twente (ZGT), Helen Dowling Institute (HDI), Roessingh rehabilitation centre, Roessingh Research and Development (RRD), Netherlands Comprehensive Cancer Organisation (IKNL), Evidencio, Ivido and the University Medical Centre of Groningen (UMCG). Also, two patient advocates from the Dutch Breast Cancer Association (BVN) give their advice.
This research is supported by the Dutch Cancer Society (KWF) and NWO Domain AES, as part of their joint strategic research programme: Technology for Oncology II. The collaboration project is co-funded by the PPP Allowance made available by Health~Holland, Top Sector Life Sciences & Health, to stimulate public-private partnerships.
