Tasks

Research: The Intelligent Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) project:

A new generation of DBS electrodes is developed. The new electrode design enables us to not only stimulate, but also measure Local Field Potentials (LFPs) during stimulation. The first step in the intelligent DBS project is to find a relation between the LFPs in the pathological brain and the clinical state of the patient. The next step is to use this found relation in a closed loop stimulation protocol. In other words, we want to observe the LFP and react on the pathological behavior with the DBS.

Biography

In 2008, I finished my bachelor degree at Hogeschool Windesheim (Zwolle, the Netherlands). For my bachelor assignment I studied the possibilities of using a wireless sensor network for monitoring elderly people. In 2012, I finished my master degree at Twente University (Enschede, the Netherlands). For my master assignment I performed source localization of brain activity in rats. After completing my master assignment at the BSS group, I continued working at the BSS group as a PhD student on the Intelligent Deep Brain Stimulation project .
