This self-study short course helps you gain insight into your own writing process, make sense of the problems you face, and develop an efficient and effective strategies for overcoming them. You also learn about the variety of approaches other people take to writing an assignment or thesis, and can learn from each other.
Content
The course is delivered in a hybrid fashion. Synchronous meetings include live (online) opening and closing sessions, and at least one guidance session (on campus). The course content is made up of online self-study tasks in the form of interactive slides, quizes, reflective tasks and online discussions about:
- types of writers
- different writing processes
- breaking up the task of writing
- avoiding writer’s block
- useful strategies for planning, drafting, revising and editing
Duration and time investment
Opening Session (45 minutes, compulsory, date and time indicated below): You gain access to the course a day before this session. Take a look at the platform and bring any questions you have to the opening session.
Course content: You have 5 weeks to follow the course at your own pace, which takes 3-4 hours in total. You can do it all at once, or you can visit each stage of the writing process as you encounter it in your own assignments. During those 5 weeks there is a weekly opportunity to speak with a writing tutor. You must attend at least one of these.
There is also one closing session (30 minutes, compulsory).
