Letter from Lieke

March 24 2023

It was my plan to use this Letter from Lieke to talk about the SucCES café that took place on Thursday. I was looking forward to having the CES colleagues together again, and to hearing about your ideas, wishes, and challenges on combining working on campus with working from home. I was curious about the results of the survey and the findings Joschka Hüllmann, and already thinking about including those for the redistribution in the Vrijhof after SAS moves to the Contact Centre. It was sure to be a fun get-together again!

I have heard that it was indeed a SucCES. I have seen the pictures and I got to experience about five minutes of this event before I got a phone call… Because Thursday was also the day a national cybersecurity crisis simulation took place, OZON 2023, and CES were very much involved in this one (more than I had anticipated). Over 2000 participants in universities, HBO and MBO institutions, academic hospitals and other knowledge institutions took part in this serious game dealing with attacks and hackers, and not unimportant, social media. I am hugely impressed by the design of this game, and congratulations to those who were involved in the preparations to make it feel as authentic as possible. You can read more about it further on in this newsletter, but let me thank Joyce, Liewina, Gerard, Jasper and Nina for their participation, and Giuseppe for taking part in the preparation (and if I forgot to include others, apologies). It was really good to see how quickly you got used to the crisis methodology, and how well you worked with the LISA colleagues to analyse the information and take well-considered decisions. If we are ever under a real attack, I know I can rely on you! I should also thank Nel who had to cancel more and more appointments as the exercise continued and my presence was required…

But all of this excitement meant that I had to miss the SucCES café. I am sure that the hard work Willemijn, Katharina, Niels, Antoinette and Michaella put into preparing the event, lead to an interesting meeting. You chose a topic that clearly was of interest to many of our colleagues, and I am glad to hear that the turnout and participation were so good. Hopefully, you enjoyed it as well, and if you have any suggestions for future SucCES cafés, don’t hesitate to let Willemijn know.
