Pass/Fail Regulations & Validity of Grades

Detailed information on pass/fail regulations and validity of grades can be found in the EER.

In short the pass/fail regulation for study units taught from September 2021 onwards is: a study unit during the first academic year, the second academic year and the second semester of the third academic year is successfully completed if the final rouned exam grade as registered in Osiris is at least a 6 and all grades for the tests of parts of the study unit are >= 5.5 or a Pass (P). Grades of study units and parts of study units registered in Osiris will be valid indefinitely. (Parts of) study units with insufficient results can be redone in later years.

At the student's request to the programme, up to two rounded 5.0 grades —as registered in Osiris— may be converted into passing grades registered in Osiris as ‘C5’. The following conditions apply:

  • A student may obtain at most one ‘C5’ in the first year and at most one ‘C5’ in the second or third year.
  • The rounded 5.0 shall come from an unrounded grade between 5.0 and 5.4 for a study unit or part of a study unit
  • ‘C5’ registration is not possible for a project.
  • ‘C5’ registration is not possible for a study unit or part of a study unit evaluated with a ‘fail’ (F).
  • ‘C5’ registration is not possible for study units in the minor phase.
  • ‘C5’ registration is not possible for the study unit Academic & Research and Skills and Module 12 courses for ME-UT students.
  • All other study units in the relevant academic year(s) have been passed.

A request for registration can be done via the form at Forms for requests | Request for C5 registration in Osiris (form).
