This page explains the conditions for the minor programme as well as the entry requirements students have to meet before they can start their minor (module 9 + 10).
Entry requirements for minor programme (modules 9 + 10):
- Completed the first academic year (60 EC)
- Obtained 30 EC from the second academic year
- No more than 4 EC of unfinished courses of the second academic year that are delivered concurrently with the quartile of the minor
Conditions for minor programmes (modules 9 + 10):
- In accordance with the matrix (see the minor website, under 'General information & rules')
- Modules that are not included in the matrix (contract modules, foreign modules, modules offered by other Dutch universities) may be included in an individual person’s minor programme as long as they are approved by the Examination Board of the Mechanical Engineering degree programme. Requests for approval may be sent to examinationboard-set-me@utwente.nl.
- Students are not allowed to choose two 1st year modules (module 1 / module 2) as their minor modules.
- Overlapping study units have to be replaced, options for replacement courses and conditions are as follows:
- Programming in Engineering, 2 EC or 4 EC (202400656). The course is divided into two sections: (1) Python and (2) C++. The course is modular: it is possible to do only one of the two sections for 2.0 EC, or both for 4.0 EC.
- Introduction to Mathematical Analysis, 2 EC (201600166), 3 EC (201400385) & 4 EC (201600167) options
- Any other UT course that accepts your enrolment (ask teacher / programme coordinator of the other UT course / programme)
- Replacement courses have (little or) no overlap with the ME courses done/to be done
- The replacement course can be done in an other quartile as the minor
- Guideline for approval of individual minors:
- Total study load must be at least 30 credits.
- You may not choose subjects that overlap to a great degree with subjects offered in the BSc Mechanical Engineering programme.
- No more than one language course (in a foreign exchange minor or Dutch for forgein students), with a maximum of 5 credits.
- One or two first-year courses are allowed for minors intended to broaden your knowledge and/or to boost prior knowledge in order to take second or third year courses if those courses are also taken as part of the same minor programme.
- Minor programmes in preparation for another master’s degree programme. Approve content if the programme allows students with courses that overlap with other programmes (as long as the minor contains enough suitable science courses).
