Assessment quality is a cornerstone of high-quality education. The Educational Advisers within the BMS Teaching Academy offer a variety of instruments that BMS programmes may employ to safeguard and enhance the quality of their assessment. Every selected activity results in a report that may be used as proof of assessment quality assurance with the Exam Board and during accreditation.
Overview of Assessment QA Instruments
The instruments proposed for the academic year 2024-25 are:
Instrument | Description | Unit | Best for |

Capacity
For the academic year 2024-25, each programme may request activities up to the maximum capacity below:
- 1 ADP/AS per MSc course, AND
- 2 ADP/AS per BSc study unit (e.g., module component), AND
- 1 workshop (TW/PW)
how to time your request
Timing is essential for the success of assessment QA actions. Irrespective of the chosen instrument, teachers should have at least one quartile to work on identified improvement points. However, for larger courses and more intense redesign or improvement efforts, more time may be required. Hence, the assessment QA action must be aligned with the course PDCA cycle.
The PMT is recommended to send in a request when the course has just finished and the exam and SEQ results become available. The action should then start as soon as possible, in accordance with the Educational Adviser assigned to the project and the study unit coordinator.
How to request an action?
There are multiple ways in which a PMT can request an assessment QA action:
- Through the form below.
- In the kick-off meeting at the beginning of the new academic year: the Teaching Academy and QA Coordinator will invite you to a meeting to discuss the support you require for the continuing improvement of your programme, including assessment QA instruments.
- If you are not sure of what instrument to choose for a specific course, contact teachingacademy-bms@utwente.nl.
