Brief description of the assignment

GGD Twente is the municipal health service for the Twente region in the Netherlands. Its primary mission is to improve the public health of all residents in Twente. The Infection Control Department plays a crucial role in this mission by focusing on the management of notifiable diseases and other infections that can easily lead to outbreaks, such as norovirus and scabies. Through patient education, preventive measures, and effective control strategies, GGD Twente significantly contributes to the overall health and well-being of the community.

There is room for 1 intern, who could choose to work on one of the following options:

Option 1 Using telephone consultations to improve patient education on scabies

At GGD Twente, 27% of all telephone consultations are about scabies. This assignment involves analyzing approximately 1000 telephone consultations to identify their unmet needs. Additionally, the project can result in an FAQ list that can improve scabies information and awareness in public health communication, such as on the GGD website. Preferred language: Dutch.

Option 2 Describing the psychosocial impact of scabies: what’s in it for public health?

The diagnosis and treatment of scabies can significantly impact a patient's life. According to GGD's experience, scabies patients often face stigma, shame, and isolation from social contacts and society. This project aims to investigate the psychosocial impact of scabies on patients' lives in a quantitative or qualitative study. Data collection and analysis will also be part of the project, resulting in a paper where results, conclusions and recommendations can be shared with other GGD’s. Preferred language: Dutch (English can be discussed).
