The effect of a mindfulness app on self-control and other outcomes
Type of research: Quantitative empirical
Description: Mindfulness is widely used to achieve various benefits, including improving self-control, reducing stress, and increasing interoceptive awareness. Interventions can take many forms, such as apps, videos, audio-guided meditations, or workbooks. Each intervention may emphasize different techniques, such as breathwork or body scanning. Despite the popularity of mindfulness, the effectiveness of specific interventions on particular outcomes, such as self-control, stress, or interoceptive awareness, is not always well-studied.
The aim of this assignment is to evaluate the effectiveness of a mindfulness app on self-control and other outcomes of your choice, such as stress, interoceptive awareness, or well-being. Together with a fellow student, you will select a mindfulness app and design a study to test its effect on self-control and the other chosen outcomes. This research will involve collecting your own quantitative data: participants will engage with the chosen intervention or no intervention (control group), and you will measure changes in self-control and other outcomes pre- and post-intervention using validated questionnaires.
